Letter from an evacuee as part of our WW2 topic

Dear Mother,
I am missing you so much even though I am having so much fun.  It is really good here in the countryside.  I have made so many new friends.  You don’t need to worry about me as I am living with a wonderful family.  Unfortunately I was being teased at first but we got it all sorted out.  Now we are all playing games together.  I’ve got some of my friends from home staying with me.  I’m staying with Stephanie, Sophie and my boyfriend Gordon.  My journey was okay but Lisa was sick on the train.  We found out where we were going after about half an hour.

The family I live with are very nice.  They give us all breakfast, lunch and dinner but it is not as good as your food.  Mum have you heard anything from dad lately?

Guess what mum?  I got picked by a man and a woman.  Their names are Robert and Linda Donald.  They have so many children but we are all friends and they all like Stephanie, Sophie and Gordon.  We all get along great.  We have had 2 or 3 gas mask drills.  School is fun but on a Monday we have to do laundry or cookery all day long but we do that at home anyway so it’s not really different.

Anyway, how is gran Ann?  Is she still taking her pills?  Mum can you try and send a letter to dad that is saying I miss him and I hope he is okay and tell him I am with a great family and I hope he will teach Hitler a lesson.  I need to go now as it is time for dinner.
                 Lots of Love
                             Your daughter, Cathrine McWhite xxx
