Let’s Set Sail

Well today’s the day the magnificent ship Titanic will set sail on its voyage to New York, America.  Captain Edward J Smith and his crew are getting everything ready to welcome all the joyful passengers onto his ship. White star line pronounced that the Titanic was ready to sail. Some of the quayside crowds are making a day out of this as well as saying goodbye to friends and loved ones.  The Titanic was built in Belfast by Harland and Wolfe, however it was brought to Southampton.  People are going on the Titanic to emigrate, to start a new life or just for holiday.

The titanic is 269 metres (882 feet) long.  That is the size of 22 buses lined up together.  The propellers are the size of windmills.  So why do they call it the unsinkable ship?  Well up to 4 compartments can flood and she can still stay afloat but that’s not going to happen.  Due to safety reasons the Titanic has 2 crow’s nests for lookout.  Bruce Ismay is the owner of the White Star Line and we managed to interview him.

He said, “Sailing inspires me and I wanted to make something that would stick in people’s minds forever.”  Unfortunately we couldn’t get to interview Thomas Andrews the designer.

The golden sun is beaming down on all the crowds as photographers are taking photos of the ship of dreams, Titanic.  The cars are zooming in with trunks.  All of the first class passengers are now heading on to the boat with boxes and some with their dogs.  Health checks are going on everywhere although the 3rd class get them the 1st and 2nd are not needed to have them.  Crew are standing at the doors to welcome all the passengers gradually 2nd and 3rd class passengers. We managed to get an interview with Sara White, one of the people in the crowd.  “I didn’t try to buy a ticket because I am happy with my family so I didn’t bother”

So what is Sara White missing out on?  This luxurious ship has many facilities such as Turkish Baths where it soothes your skin and leaves you feeling wonderful.  There is a gymnasium to get you into shape for America.  Elegant restaurants will serve you the most wonderful meal you have ever tasted.

Let’s hear what one of the first class passengers has to say.  Molly Brown said, “They’ve called it the ‘Floating Palace’.  Let’s see if it can live up to standards.”

The destination of the Titanic is New York City but it will call in at France then over to Ireland.  It will sail over the Atlantic Ocean.  This is the captain, Edward J. Smith’s last voyage before he retires but wants to go out with a bang, so he is trying to beat the record of going across the Atlantic Ocean the fastest.

So there is one last thing to say,

GOOD LUCK TITANIC.
Jennifer
