The Ship of Dreams

Yesterday, the 10th of April, at Southampton, the Titanic was launched.  People from all over the world came to see this floating palace.  There are over 2,200 crew members and passengers going on it and no doubt there will be lots of famous people aboard.  People are going on the Titanic to start a new life in America.

In March 1909 the Titanic was being built.  I spoke to Bruce Ismay, owner of the White Star Line and he said that he was very impressed with the builders and he is very excited about the launch of the Titanic.  He explained that the boat has sixteen compartments and if four of them get flooded the boat would still float and it has four funnels.

The quayside was very busy with people shouting good luck and crying.  I bumped into Molly Brown and asked her a few questions.  She is very excited to be boarding the Titanic or, as she calls it, the ship of dreams.  This lucky lady has a first class ticket and she is going to America because her husband has struck gold!

The facilities on board are magnificent – Turkish baths (lovely and relaxing), swimming pools to go for a swim in, elegant restaurants, a gymnasium and private reading rooms.

All hopes and dreams can come true for those on board.  Third class passengers want to own their own businesses, second class passengers want to strike gold and first class passengers want to enjoy a holiday or get married.
