The Floating Palace

The ship of dreams set sail for its voyage to New York.  Before the Titanic set sail we talked to people going on this voyage and those here to wave the floating palace off, their family and loved ones.  The super ship was constructed in Belfast in a harbour called Harland and Wolff.

We spoke with Molly Brown, a young lady who lives in the lap of luxury.  She says she’s amazed at this ship which is 268 metres long and 882 feet.  She was so amazed when I told her.  She hopes she has a room with a record player and has nice food.  Bruce Ismay, the owner says it’s the best creation he’s ever built.  He says God won’t be able to sink this ship.  He says the hull is divided into sixteen compartments – if four flood it can still float.

No wonder this ship is a floating palace, it has an amazing swimming pool, massive gym, a grand staircase and elegant restaurants.  Captain E J Smith is planning to set sail here in Southampton, picking up passengers in Ireland and France then heading for New York, trying to break the record for the fastest travel across the Atlantic Ocean.

Now we will speak with Jim Brown, a third class passenger, who sold everything he owns for a ticket.  He says I’ll miss my family but I’m ready to start a new life in America.

I wish the best for these people and hope they have a great voyage and have a great time in America.

The Launch of the Titanic

The moment we have all been waiting for, the ship of dreams, the floating palace, the launch of the Titanic.  Soon this ship will set sail.  It’s the biggest ship in the world and it will stay that way.  We will be interviewing some of the locals.  Today it will sail from Southampton and end its voyage in New York!

This amazing ship was built in Belfast at Harland and Wolff shipyard.  It is 882 feet long, it is unsinkable and it has 3 gigantic propellers.  The hull is separated into 16 compartments and four could flood and it would still be able to float.  It’s the length of 22 buses.  Probably the most noticeable feature is the big tunnels.  Only 3 get used and 1 is for storage.

People are here with cameras taking photos of this beautiful moment in history.  Cars are being loaded on to the ship on big platforms.  Trunks are being dragged along the ground.  Lots of people are cheering and waving to friends and family, seeing them off as they go on a journey across the sea.

On board the Titanic there is a gymnasium where passengers can get fit, and a swimming pool for a bit of fun, and Turkish Baths to relax and much more.  It is called the floating palce because it is like a palace.  The service is good and the food is extraordinary, so it is like a home for some people on board.  The crew wait on you hand and foot, at the clap of your hands people will serve you.

Molly Brown said it’s the ship of dreams.  I can’t wait to get to New York.  Captain Smith said we have planned for smooth sailing.  We will dock in New York in 6 days and this is my last voyage so I will try to beat the record of the fastest across the Atlantic Ocean.  The tickets are a lot of money – 1st Class room - £30, 2nd Class room - £12 and 3rd Class room - £8.  I sold everything I own to go to America said Jim Black.  I wish good luck to everyone on board and a safe trip

We will see where this ship is tomorrow and get back to you.

Titanic is the place for you

Do you want to miss the chance to be a passenger on the Titanic?  Come Aboard.  You could be there on the Titanic’s maiden voyage.  We’ve got White Star Line’s best Captain, Mr Edward J Smith!  Titanic will start in Southampton, sail all the way to Ireland, even France so passengers can hop aboard.  Her final stop will be in New York, so passengers can have a bit of fun.

Cunard and White Star Line have hired great crew members including Captain Smith and William Murdoch.  If you decide you want to come aboard, as well as meeting the crew, it will be the best choice you’ve ever made.  Bruce Ismay was the man with the idea of making this ship.  He’s even made it so you’ll feel safe with loads of life saving lifeboats.  The hull is divided into sixteen parts, up to four could flood and Titanic would be afloat.  If you still don’t feel safe we have water-tight doors!

There’s four mouth-watering restaurants for you to enjoy!  When you are hotter than the sun you can cool down in our jaw-dropping pool or even a Turkish bath.  Wannabe authors, you’re in luck, there’s even a reading and writing room.  Gymnastics, if you want to practise, there’s a state of the art gymnasium.

If you’re a hungry guest this is the place to be, inside Titanic she holds large fridges with fish, meat, vegetables and many more.  Titanic needs eight hundred tonnes of coal each day to keep her going. In fact if you are interested her lifeboats are twenty-five feet long.  Are any of you passengers claustrophobic?  Don’t worry, there’s plenty of space.  I know being stuck at home isn’t really that much fun but come here on April 10th, you’ll never regret it.

So if you’re looking for a bit of fun or relaxation, buy some tickets for Titanic.  Aboard the ship there are plenty of friendly people, even old Captain Smith, (the best Captain in Britain.)  Don’t forget through the grand staircase head to the first-class lounge.  Nobody in the world will want to miss the chance to be on the Titanic’s maiden voyage.  One of those people could be you!  This fabulous ship’s tickets will be sold out soon, so hurry to Southampton!  Buy that ticket!  Be the first!

Jack’s Diary (Titanic)

Dear Diary 12.35 am

It is around 12.35 am and I have just heard a weird noise, a scraping noise against the side of the ship.  I was really worried.  About 10 minutes later a steward rampaged into our room and shouted evacuate and do it quickly!  Do it now!  My family panicked.  We put our warm clothes and our life jackets on.  We were so scared!  We went up to the lifeboats.  Sadly my brother is classed as a man.  I was upset as he had to stay behind on the sinking ship.  All of the first class passengers always get on the boats first.  Carelessly the first class passengers just walked up to the lifeboats.  It really annoyed me.  Nervously all of the men stood there thinking if they were going to survive.

Entry 2 – 4.35 am

4 hours later the Carpathia came to rescue us.  Thank goodness my brother was safe.  We saw him on the Carpathia.  It took quite a while to get to New York but we were happy as we were still a family.

Jack’s Diary

15th April 1912  21.30 am

It was the scariest thing ever!  Thank god I’m on a lifeboat!  When my parents were asleep I snuck outside to see what was going on.  First I thought that nothing happened but then I saw water coming on the boat at a breakneck pace from the front.  I was about to explode.  I thought they said this boat was unsinkable!  Still I had to get to a lifeboat and alarm everyone.  I sprinted down to 3rd class to find Annie.  Then I heard a voice in the distance shouting, “Help!  My cabin is filling up with water!”  I ran up to the cabin and smashed the door open and there was Annie.  I swam into the room because there was lots of water filling up.  Annie and I ran up to the lifeboat that I prepared.  When the lifeboat was lowered Annie fell off.  I jumped in to get her.  I saved Annie and I was very proud.  Thank god I didn’t die!

Dear Diary

12.15 am 14th April

As I write I’m on a lifeboat watching the Titanic sink slowly.  This is what happened.  Silently I went to bed and I heard a scraping noise then…EEEEHH!  A steward came rushing in and said lifebelts on quick, quick!

My mum, dad, brother and I leaped out of our beds, put our lifebelts on and bolted out of the room to A deck.  Everyone was running to A deck.  I asked a steward what happened and he said, “We hit an iceberg.  We’re going to sink!”

I glimpsed Annie Flynn over in the distance.  Speedily she rushed over to me.  As the 1st class passengers were away luckily I got on a lifeboat with Annie Flynn, mum, dad and Ted.

2 am 15th April

Now we’re watching most people from 3rd class die.  The Titanic is down and so is Ted.  We will miss him sadly.

Ohh…in the distance, I see, I see… the Carpathia.  WE’RE SAVED!!

5.10 pm 16th April 1913

It’s been one year since the Titanic sank and I’m still missing my brother.  This is my last diary entry.  Bye.

My Diary

Dear Diary at midnight 14th April

As soon as Ted and I were out of bed we had to get to a lifeboat and fast!  We heard it was women and children first.  Thankfully we found a lifeboat and got on it and Ted was allowed on one with me.  I just hope mum and dad are all right.  Mum was on the next lifeboat and I waved and she was glad we were all right.  We saw the ship going up.  I was so scared of it!  The boat broke in half after just a few minutes.  The people who fell in the water were still moving in the freezing cold water.  The Titanic was still sinking and soon it will all sink in the water of worse sink to the bottom of the ocean.  Everyone was so scared – well all of us should be.  Mum was shocked at what was happening to so many people who were left on board Titanic.

I was worried that my dad was still on the Titanic as it was sinking fast!  I wanted to go back but I couldn’t go so I tried to shout him but it was no good as he could not hear me.  I was afraid that he would be dead.

After a while I saw the people in the water.  It looked like they were frozen and I was right about it – they were.  It was so so scary to see them not moving anymore.  Two hours later were saved by another ship.
